Lightroom 5 problem downloading photos

I was downloading photos using a Lexar card reader. The thumbnails appeared in LR and i renamed the photos assigned where were they were to be download then pressed the download button. A message appeared that said the files were unreadable and couldn't be downloaded. Then I opened bridge and was able to download the photos through bridge. Any ideas what caused the problem.

Are you taking about Importing? If so, I'm not sure what you mean by "renamed photos assigned". What tool are you using for that?

It sounds like you inadvertently got one of the settings wrong in LR. Try it again but don't rename the images or do anything fancy. If that works, at least you know that there's no problem with the card reader and LR.

There should have been a coma after renamed photos. I do everything through Lightroom. It's just a puzzlement that bridge could read the photo and not Lightroom. I wonder if it's the card. This is a San Disc a good one, but I usually buy Lexar.

If it works OK on a different set of files after a reboot, I would go on and not worry.

You downloaded from the card into lightroom. Lightroom doesn't actually copy the images, once you take the card out, lightroom has no information anymore. It is best to put them on your hard drive then import them into lightroom. As long as the photo's are where lightroom imported them they will be there.

To be clear the photos were on a card so Lightroom function was to import them to my hard drive. Lightroom said they could not be read. I then closed Lightroom and used Bridge to import the photos to my HD-no problem.

I wasn't aware lightroom would do that. I have learned something new.

This is how it's normally done. Take the advise to re-boot your computer, and do it over again. Since those images have already been imported via Bridge, try formatting the card in your camera and take 10 shots of junk around your house. The pull the card and try importing it again in LR. Do NOT do any special renaming of the image files. I have a feeling this is where the problem lies. I could be wrong.

The naming of photo's and files is part of the normal downloading process in Lightroom.
