Help:Canon 60D users--shot count

This morning I put a 32 Gb chip (used once previously) in the camera and after shooting about 65 Images in jpeg with the quality set at Fine-Large (6.4 MB/image) the count down number stayed at 999. It has always worked before? The last time I used this particular chip the camera was shooting jpeg + RAW, and it worked fine.

The camera was bought new from B&H in July 2013.

Is there some setting in the camera that I could could have inadvertently turned off?

Any other suggestions

Can you review the 65 you have taken?
If so, download them to your computer, then let the camera format the card and try again.
Might have some file directory corruption that is keeping it from being able to properly list the number of shots available. OR, it could be a problem with the camera not being able to display a number above 999?

I haven't put them in the computer yet, but look OK in the playback mode.

The number counts DOWN from 999 as images are taken so it should have shown 934.

Are you sure that card can only hold 999?? Maybe with the capture setup you have it can hold more?? Maybe it can only hold 999 RAW, but if shooting JPG-Fine that would allow it to shoot at least double that number I think!

Copy the pics off, format the card and try it again......

EDIT: I think that at 6.4MB average for JPG-Fine, that card should hold close to 5000 pictures!! Maybe the camera can only show a count of 999 or less?

That is correct it is only a three digit number field, but I think you have hit on the answer; it may not be counting down because there is a lot more than 999 images left. When I was shooting the jpeg + RAW at a wedding--family wedding, I wasn't the pro  -- I think I had about 400 images on it. Thanks! I'll put a smaller chip in tomorrow ans we'll see what happens.

Probably off the mark, but (unlike Nikons) I believe that Canons will only show available shots up to 999...even if more are available.

The reason it worked before is because you were shooting raw and jpg so each press of the shutter probably created files 4 times larger than just one Fine-Large jpg. That said, my Canon cameras will only show 999 when more than 999 can be held on the card until you've used up enough of the card that it can hold less than 999.

The counter will stay at 999 because that it the largest it counts too. I also have seen this on my 60D.

My Canon 70D also seems to be stuck on 999

On your 60D click the info button on the back of your camera. On the very bottom right of your back screen you will see something like [3905]29.6GB. The 3905 is the number of jpeg photos that can be stored on that card. As you change file size and or do raw or a combo of raw and jpeg that number will change. So you have to take about 3000 images before the number on your top window begins to change!!
