Mitcha: How did you focus the top two? Try using the auto-focus. Otherwise, nice.

Mitcha: I feel that you must see the difference between the first two and the last shot. If you used auto focus maybe your camera needs to be serviced. There are people involved in this forum who are much more knowledgeable than I am about the technical aspects of the way your camera works, but the first two shots definitely are out of focus.

When you are in auto focus , just remember to push your button half way down first for auto focus to work correctly, then continue for full shutter. Great Pictures though! Keep them coming.

Did some digging. Actually, it's a American Purple Gallinule.

Must have been rebadged for the American market Tim...LOL
The only explanation I can think of is that as it's the same family (gallinule) it must be a cousin slightly removed...there is also a similar bird in Europe and Africa.
I have pics of the Dusky Moorhen but as it's not my post I won't attach them...in hindsight, comparing the two, if the colours are correct in the image, the Moorhen isn't as blue...
Ron.

Here's a little from Wikipedia regarding the American Purple Gallinule: "Their breeding habitat is warm swamps and marshes in southeastern states of the United States and the tropical regions of Central America, the Caribbean and northern South America. This species is resident in southern Florida and the tropics, but most American birds are migratory, wintering south to Argentina...... There is a similarly named species in Europe, Asia and Africa, the Purple Swamphen, Porphyrio porphyrio, but that bird is much larger."

Whatever...photo #3 is still a beautiful shot of this unusually colored bird. Very nice snap!
