Excellent tutorial, Sandra. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like you found some good tutorials there!
Fodder for a section of their own.
;-)
I'm excited that it's had such a positive response so far. I was worried it would be too basic for many of the people here to appreciate. I have all these facts rumbling around in my head, and every time I watch a new tutorial, I have a slightly better understanding of the facts that I've gathered. I just have to keep going over it again and again, until it all stays in my head and works for me. I just hope this helps someone like me that has to go over something several times before really getting it. I love the way he illustrates what your camera sees. I'm going to try it at home. :-)
I have a question. If you are working in manual, would you use exposure compensation? Or, is exposure compensation just for Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Program modes?
It doesn't make sense to use exposure compensation in manual, because you could just adjust your shutter speed ... right?
Hahaha, put your camera in manual and see what happens.
Manual is MANUAL....DUH!
It isn't your camera that's stupid y'know. Many $$$$$ and time went into developing precise controls...You think those people who did it were stupid? The only "thing"that gets fooled is the owner.

So, you think Mark Wallace is stupid? :-D Hmmm
I wonder who I should listen to, you or him? Hard choice. LOL
Love ya, Jenny.
So what did Mark Wallace invent that was better?
And if he did why does no one know about it?
So why have people been spending so much for "stupid" cameras? Maybe all the R&D money should go to Mark Wallace.
Maybe you could just go put your camera in manual and
see what happens when you do exp. comp.
Yep,maybe you should listen to other people. It's a common
excuse for stupid to just blame the camera instead of learning to use it. :-D

No um,whatever, don't go getting all gooey.I'm on vacation having a beautiful day. Now go home and pick up your camera and turn it on manual and let's see how you do exp.comp. in manual...with complete explanation as to why you would want to when you're in manual.
Thanks for your love...

Oh my...don't think any of that was necessary.
Some of us were not born knowing everything there is to know.
Personally, I appreciate when others share information with me so I can learn. Nightski and many others here have shared a lot of good information. Since you don't need it, why even comment.
But I don't know many people who appreciate being called stupid when they are trying to learn something new, or when they want to share what they learned with others.

Well, hon, I'm happy to report that I've done just that and now I get it. Exposure compensation in Manual is done manually. :-D

Well Elliern,It would be a shame if N'ski led a whole group of newbies to believe that all their failures in photography were caused by a camera being stupid now wouldn't it. I don't know at what level you are but you may have heard of things such as "rules" of thirds, where horizons belong etc.etc.,guides but all myths. That a camera is "stupid" is the worst myth of all. As to Mark's whatisname, he is merely repeating that myth. Assuming you have a decent camera, film or digital, made in the last 50 yrs.,photographers have had to depend on knowing how to use it to get a right exposure. A camera is a tool. A very precise tool. There is nothing else but you and the camera.... that was developed by very intelligent people.
Too bad this vid N'ski was watching didn't make that point clear as it lessens the confidence of the newbie into thinking that exposing a picture is some sort of game of chance rather than a specific choice.
N'ski asked a question.I do hope she will go home and learn
to trust her intelligent camera and thereby learn the simple answer that I so clearly hinted at but she still missed.
Happy shooting.. :)
NOT your hon..that is an insult. (Not HUN either)
Congratulations N'ski, first good advice you ever got on UH instead of flattery isn't it.
