I'm just a hobbyist when it comes to pictures. I probably don't even rank as an amateur. Last night I posted a link to a place I have some of my photo's for viewing. The intent was and still is to discuss the pictures with anyone who wants to talk about them. So below is a picture to get things rolling. I will also post a link to other pictures I have on another site. This is not to promote the other site but a way of sharing the pictures with those interested. FEEL FREE to copy the pictures from that site and post in this thread if you have comments or want to discuss those pictures.

The link to the rest of the pictures that you are welcome to copy and bring to this thread for the purpose of discussion is http://www.outdoorphotographer.com/your-favorite-places/photographers/431981-Ed-Kellems.html

Thank you Johnny!
This picture was taken in the wild, not at a feeding station. Nothing wrong with feeders as I have several out myself. But I love to get out and take advantage of what nature has to offer also. Basically most of my pictures are from taking my camera "hunting" so to speak.
8-)

Another case of taking my camera hunting.

I'm trying to talk my sister into joining this site.
She uses modern equipment.
Anyway she has some of the most incredible nature fotos.
From brown and black bears, dolphins, whales birds, on and on.
Just a gal who loves her camera.

She should join. I like wildlife and scenery pictures.
I like sharing and talking about them as well. But I have been to several sites and it seems that those type pictures are the majority of the peoples favorites. The link I posted above is to an outdoor magazine site. Yet there is hardly any use of their discussion board. I know a lot of my pictures aren't what you would call high quality. Take that running deer for instance. I still have the raw file to work with but the cropped JPEG isn't impressive at all. But it is a good shot of a free roaming deer that was just a snap decision on my part. Sometimes any picture is better than no picture. And sometimes the story behind the picture is as interesting as the picture itself. I'm a far cry from a pro, not even an amateur, I'm just a hobbyist with a couple cameras and a variety of mismatched lenses. I have an off brand name 500mm fixed lens with a 2X converter. I bought it for $50 from a guy I work with. The lens is all manual and I had to get a converter to make it match up to my Nikon camera. So I have to set my Nikon D80 on manual to even use it. Nothing works including the light meter when I use this setup. So I take a couple practice shots to get my camera in the ball park when I start. After that you take a shot and check the picture, then adjust your camera and try again! It's a lot like shooting a rifle with no sights or scope. But I do get decent pictures out of it from time to time. And it's fun to play with.
So like I said, I'm just a hobbyist that likes to take pictures of wildlife and scenery. And I came to this forum hoping to find some like minded individuals to be able to share in the experience. The link posted above is just to give everyone an idea of where I am experience wise and what I like as subject. Basically it's a get to know me link. I felt it was easier to post the link than it was to pull and post 50 or 60 pictures here. So once again I invite you to check out the pictures and if you have similar interests and want to discuss any of the pictures copy them from there and post them in this thread and I'll be happy to discuss it with you.

This picture is just slightly out of focus but I have others that are more clear. It was taken with that 1000mm contraption I was telling you about. I took this picture this past weekend. I post a lot of pictures on facebook so I use pictures that are OK, but not something someone would want to steal and call their own. This is one of those pictures! :-)

I started out with a minolta 100. It had a 35mm lense that was perfect.
I bracketed all of my shots by fiddling with a. focus, b. dof, and c. light.
I did not understand how any of those worked. I just fiddled with them.
Never read a foto book or took a class.
Got some great shots but man .
Finally a guy in a Ritz's was telling a beginner how dof worked.
What an amazing device. hee hee

I have always liked taking pictures of wildlife. I remember hiding in a box in the winter time by a bird feeder and a pocket camera that used 110 film. I was close to the feeder but of course the picture didn't come out like that. All you could see was specks that I knew were birds but no one else did. LOL Finally a friend loaned me a couple 35mm SLR camera's. I knew nothing about how to use them or what they were capable of so I did a lot of playing around with them. No schooling or classes, just roll after roll of film! Eventually I was able to get DSLR camera's so the processing costs dropped drastically. Below is a picture of some geese that I took from several hundred yards away using my mismatched camera and long lens.
