I have the T3i and I love it! I didn't love the lens it came with, so I asked Santa for a better lens and he came through with a Sigma 18-250 OS. :) I think you will LOVE it. I bought a book called the Canon EOS Rebel T3i/600D Digital Field Guide by Charlotte K. Lowrie, and it is outstanding. It's specific to our camera, and has taught me much about how the camera works. It's right in my bag!

Good luck, I know you will love it and will be amazed by the quality of the pics. I haven't posted here on UHH yet, still a bit shy about that, but it's not because of the quality I get with my camera!

What? No Nikon? LOL. Congrats. It's a very good camera with the ability to take some very good pictures and video.

Go out and take a bunch of pictures with it!
Most importantly, have fun.

For me it was all about wanting one lens that I didn't have to keep switching. I had a Canon 55-80, and a Canon 70-300 - neither of which did the close up stuff I was hoping for. So I would have the 70-300 on there and have to switch to the smaller one when I wanted to take pics of something closer, and vice versa: would have the smaller one on, and would have to switch for the far away shots. The 18-250 that I got allows me to keep the one lens on there and get most of the shots I was looking for PLUS it gives me access to take the closer, macro type shots.

I am not "educated" in photography at all - pretty much don't really know what I'm doing technically, but I love the trying and get some great pictures. :) I'm sure there are professionals out there that would find fault with my reasoning, but it's what works for me! I did a bunch of research by googling "best all around lens" type of thing, and the 18-200 or 18-250 consistently came up. Therefore, it made it to my list!

Have you had much time to go out and shoot yet with your new camera? I haven't, and I can't wait for this weekend to go out and shoot.

Enjoy - this is my second Canon DSLR, I had the original Rebel and it never once let me down. My sister now has it and she is loving it too.

Why not draw your own conclusions? You have the lens, at this stage, opinions are counterproductive.

Both of your lenses are good. You will be able to do everything you want with them. Your camera is also a good one. With your lenses the only thing that will hold you back is low light. With the bigger lens you might want to think about getting a good tripod. It will let you get tack sharp pictures at the long end.
The way you hold your camera will be the only thing that will hold you back, it took me a while to find a way to hold the camera still to get sharp pictures.
Go have fun, now that you have your gear, its free. The shoots don't cost you a thing. The more you play the better you will get!

Very Good. I replaced my Pentax TLS with Christmas money last year with a Pentax K10d. New cameras almost smell as good as a new car-------C

I have the Canon XTi(400D) and use a 75-300 sigma and 70-300 sigma macro. I love both lenses for what I use them for - anything farther away and I'd need a telescope. hahaha Once you get out and use it a few times I'm sure you'll love it too. I take pictures of flowers sometimes and I'm at least 20 feet away from them but using the 75-300 looks like I'm right on top of them.

I shot Pentax Film SLR's (several different versions) for years and years and years and somewhere along the line I received a Canon Digitial P&S that I reluctantly adopted for it's "ease" of use. After nearly 6 years of using it (and actually learning to like it especially for it's video taking ability) it finally "died".

So Mrs. "Claus" brought me a T3i "outfit" as well for Xmas after determining that the "newer" Canon "outfit" outweighed using a newer Pentax "body" with my older (MUCH OLDER) Pentax Lenses.

At first...I gave a lot of thought to returning the T3i for a Pentax Body but in all honesty I DID have such a blast with the Canon P&S and the T3i just "felt" right that I decided to keep it but alast...6 years of P&Sing and I've LOST a lot of the SLR knowledge so I feel like a "Rookie" all over again.

I've purchased a couple of books on the camera and find myself learning all over again but the BEST advice I can give ya...other than I BELIEVE you have a GREAT Camera ( AND I'm NOT knocking other Cameras with that statement!)...is to do what everybody in this forum recommends...just get out and start shooting! And shoot some more...and when your done shooting...SHOOT SOME MORE!

I "stole" and have used for a long time now a phrase I read/heard at the Kodak Exhibit at Disneyworld a million years ago..."Pictures should tell a story"....NOW GO "WRITE" VOLUMES!

Good Luck with your new "toy"
