I just got an SX-50. I already own a SB-700 flash.
Dare I try the Nikon flash on the Canon camera?

With the different contact arrangement and electronics, I am not sure I would risk it!! IF you do, make sure the flash is in MANUAL mode!!
Then don't blame anyone here if you try it and either piece quits working!!
Call Canon Customer Service first :)

No. It wouldn't do anything other than manual anyway.
Now, on the other hand, you CAN use it as an off camera unit.
Set the SB700 for SU4 mode. That's the dumb slave mode, where the flash triggers when it sees another flash.
Actually there are quite a lot of folks that use Canon flashes with their Nikon's and vice versa.

You might have better luck coupling Michael Jackson with a 60 year old woman
Nikon lad,
As my birthday is coming up how about giving me the SB700 for my collection of superb Nikon cameras. I will be ecstatic in my happiness and you will no longer need worry over that pesky flash problem.
From what I have read over the years I would not switch the flash.

nikonlad,
I use the Canon 270 EXII SpeedLite on my SX50 HS (I got a REALLY good deal on it). However, there are a couple of good flash units from independent manufacturers that fit the SX50. Check out Costco and Walmart.
