These are 1960,s pictures of Stan Lomelino and his cars. I did not take the pictures (maybe Stan1, I don't remember). Stan was a 1320 National Record Holder in the Stan1 car in the 60s and 70s. The good old days!

Great old pics. Plenty of memories there. In Oz, flat heads have always been called ' side bangers'. :-)

I don't understand how the name "side banger" applies to a flathead.

Just a slang term. 'Side' stems from side valve (in relation to overhead valve). When an engine fires, the compressed fuel/air mix explodes, or bangs. Hence, a 'side banger' is an engine with side valves. Actually Dan, the word was used by my American friends when I lived in the US in the seventies, so it is not just an Aussie term. Bangers are also sausages--bangers with mashed potato & gravy, lol. :lol:
