Water drops long exposure

I'm with ya. I go to photography class on Thurs. nights. I try to run down two batteries in my Canon XTi between classes. It sure is a challenge in the winter. I'm looking for a clear bowl to try to recreate your shots. Is this how you did it? One of my classmates in my last class put a multicolored towel under a bowl and made some spectacular images of water drops. Not long exposures like yours though.

I use colour gel under the tray and also colour gel over the flash from the back.
