can anyone give me a viewpoint on sigma v Tamron, please,

I have a canon 600d with kit lenses,ie 18x55 and 55x 250, and find changing lenses a bit of a pain at times. so am thinking as a carry about lens, a sigma 18x250, or the tamron 18x 270,, might be a good idea

I find the 18x55 I have to be reasonably quick at focusing, but the 55x 25o can be a pain sometimes,as it is inclined to hunt, thanks in anticipation for replies,

When I have a question like this, I turn to Google: Tamron 18-250 vs Canon 55 X 250.

This is a good site. Higher numbers are better.

Our company has about 20 Canon Rebels of various models out in the field, equipped about equally with Canon N 70-200 and Tamrons and Sigmas in the 18-200 to 28-300 range. All are of equal utility, our photographers don't seem to prefer one over the other. Optical quality of all is adequate for 8 x 10 to 16 x 20 prints for final sale. So our choice of brand for replacement lens, when needed, is influenced by whatever special lens sales price happens to be available!
That said, however, I do find that on rare occasions when I hang the camera around my neck on a strap, gravity extends the zoom cylinder all the way out, a bit of an irritation--to the point that I sometimes fabricate a wide (1") rubber-band collar to wrap around the lens and increase the zoom friction so it will stay retracted. With that modification, I usually leave all the rest of the lenses at home and carry only an 18-200.

thanks for your info , hac chief, I have read a few Lab reports on lenses in the past, and what they find wrong with them under Lab conditions,i dont think most of us would ever notice while out in the real world, thanks again Colin.

thanks jerryc41, if my 55x250 would only focus better,i think I might stay with it, any suggestions how I might achieve this? Colin

That's probably a characteristic of the lens, so rep[lpacement would be a cure. Read reviews and look for comments about quick focus.

Tamaron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC has lens creep for sure. Placed a rubberized wrist (support our vets)band and that took care of the problem. Just be careful when you place it on the lens or else you won't be able to zoom at all. Think they could come up with a better design?

I have both brand of lenses and find both to be excellent. I use the Tamron 18-270 as my primary lens

Just a heads up:
18x55 is written as 18 - 55. The "x" means "by" or "multiplication" where as the dash means "to" or "up to."
Also the lower case letter "o" is not the same as the number zero "0." Nor does upper case letter "O" mean the same thing as number zero "0."
They even look different for clarification; o O 0.

It helps when we use the same nomenclature, especially if someone new to photography is reading a post. ")
