I thought it might be interesting to know how often others find mistakes in movies/tv. My wife used to think I was seeing things but now, thanks to the magic of the DVR, I can rewind and show her. It's usually something small and easily missed, such as a shadow of the boom mic on the wall behind the characters.
I'll start it with one I found this weekend. It was in The Godfather Part II. I can't even tell you how many times I've seen this movie, and missed it every time. Robert DeNiro (as a younger Vito) is moving through the streets of NY in a carriage with his family. It's a hectic scene, with a lot going on (probably how this was missed). Walkers, vendors, children, and carriages fill the street. There is a moment when you can see the reflection of Francis Ford Coppola wearing large headphones in the glass of one of the carriages. It's quick, but plain as day.
Let's us know what you've found. Even if you think it's widely known, some of us might not know about it.

Movie mistakes? Hmmm, how about anything with Tom Cruise or Sandra Bollocks.
My favorite however is an episode of JAG where a character walks into a very cluttered garage from the alley. Suspenseful music plays as the character walks further into the garage and the arm, hand and part of a sound boom over the character can clearly be seen for about 2 to 3 seconds. It was probably missed by the editor because of all the clutter in the garage but is very evident if you are looking for it.

How about The Godfather pt 1 where Sonny is beating up Carlo, and you can plainly see him miss a punch, even as Carlo reacts as if he were hit.

Coincidently, I just saw that scene on the tube about an hour ago and noticed what you described, then opened this post.

Many such goofs and similar trivia can be found in the listings and reviews of films in imdb.com. Some are really difficult to see and makes one wonder how many times the reporter of the anomaly viewed the film, before it was noticed.
Imdb.com - a great resource for information for all movie lovers.

After my earlier response to your post, I went to IMDb and found some 58 such goofs listed for Godfather Part II. It's quite fascinating to me how people notice some of this stuff - some of it quite technical. Like the model of a Greyhound bus that hadn't yet been manufactured at the time portrayed in the picture.

After a lifetime in the gun business I notice anomalies with period firearms....things like they didn't use 30-30s in the Civil War!
I remember watching a cowboy flick circa 1800 and seeing a jet stream in the sky as the cowpokes rode across the prairie. I love picking out goofs in movies. A common one is the changing level in a glass of liquid. Lens flares are quite common as though they were intentional.

I haven't personally noticed this but have heard that the main actor in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' was wearing a wristwatch!

Watch the scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts is working on Richard Gere's tie. It's knotted, then unknotted, then knotted again. In addition, in one scene she's eating a Danish, then it's a bagel. Supposedly they hire people to deal specifically with scene continuity, and yet this stuff still happens.

A scene from an old Dick Powell movie "Murder My Sweet".
He's talking and drinking with a lady at a table in her home.
She drinks from her glass and sets it on the table. Cut to Powell talking, cut back to her - no glass. Cut to wide shot, the glass is there. Cut to Powell, back to tight on the lady, no glass.
It says the tight shots on the lady were shot before or after the rest of the scene and someone in the continuity department forgot about the glass.
Just fun stuff.

I was watching a Pirate movie years ago and the Pirate had a vaccination on his upper arm and a jet trail behind him in the horizon.
Thanks for replying. Another common one seems to be eyeglasses. First they are on, then not, then are again. If there are people watching out for these things ( I have heard this also), as someone mentioned above, then how many mistakes are they catching???
