Doddy Loc: Barnard Castle-England

Taken a few (misty) mornings ago, I walked down the river Tees past Egglestone Abbey down to where the river Great runs into the Tees (meeting of the waters) then back into Barnard castle past the Bowes Museum. Egglestone Abbey Bridge was built in 1773 but is being constantly damaged by heavy traffic as is the older County bridge crossing into Barnard castle two miles upriver. The Market cross was built in 1747 and the two bullet holes in the weather vane were put there in 1803 by a local gamekeeper and a militiaman having a drunken bet outside the "Raby Arms" pub 150 yards away!!
