My SX50 was doing just fine, until last night and now I can not do the functions and menu wouldn't come up. It started when the sensor frame (i think that's what you call it) as I was getting ready to take a picture showed a yellow frame in the center with an explanation mark, than everything just quit working!!!! I could not find anything on line or in the manual. Help!!

First thing to come to mind when anything quits: Is the power on - or the battery charged?
Second thing with cameras: Is the memory card in place and formated in-camera (NOT in computer)?
I may completely miss the mark, but...

Hello pooralice
I would do what was already suggested Some times if you remove the battery for about 10 minutes this may help Make sure battery is fully charged. Hope this helps you out.

I just checked the manual and this may or may not help:
Page 248 under Troubleshooting:
- Confirm that the battery is charged (see page 15)
- Confirm that the battery is inserted facing the correct way (see page 16)
- Confirm that the memory card/battery cover is fully closed (see page 17)
- Dirty battery terminals reduce battery performance. Try cleaning the terminals with a cotton swab and reinserting the battery a few time.

I realize that the manual also says that the problem is "Nothing happens when the power button is pressed" but I believe that what you describe could also be caused by the above items.

I put another full charge battery in it and took out the menory card, and put another in. that's not the problem. Everything acts like it is jam-up. I would try to reset it, but I can not use the menu. what the hell did i do?

If nothing you do fixes the problem would call canon or take it to a good camera store and say help! Let us know when you get it fixed and what you did to fix it. Aren't computers wonderful. Good luck.

Is the camera still under warranty? A trip to the camera shop may be in order, if they can't help, you may have to send it Canon.

There are no camera stores near me; a thing of the past in this area. So I am going to call camera and see what they have to say. Maybe send it in or maybe wait from the sx60. thanks for everyone trying to help me...poor alice

Just a suggetion....

Switching from EVF view to LCD view may allow you to get to the menu to do a full reset.

Please note that when removing the battery keep it out for ten minutes or so before reinserting to let capacitors self discharge.

Good suggestions as are some of the others. I don't know this camera but I would add... check to ensure the card switch is not in the protect mode. SD and their variation cards contain a switch for protecting images. You won't be able to record to it (assuming this is the type of card it has).

I can't offer any thoughts on this that haven't been offered already.

But in terms of your question "what did I do?", you probably didn't do a thing. Point and shoot cameras are not forever.

I once had a Sony P&S that worked fine one day and refused to give me a picture the next. I never figured that one out. I had a Canon that suddenly, in the middle of a trip refused to operate. In that case it was a jammed lens though I never found out why it was jammed.

Sometimes these cameras just quit. It's not right to blame yourself.
