I don't know if I should be doing this...

I did this process using cs5 in 3 steps. First I used the spot healing tool and the liquify filter. Next photo I used the healing brush, spot healing tool, and the liquify tool. On the last one I did all of the above and then painted a little in order to brighten and smooth the eyes a little.

I know that I over did the nose but I don't know how to back up after working it so much.

Here is the bad part; It's my wife. Do you think I should show it to her? I am serious. 3 years ago she underwent treatment for breast cancer and it did age here a lot. She is not that old.

How did I do? What can I do to make it better? What changes should be made? Feel free to change things around. Let me know what you did and how you did it.

All I did was use the content aware feature to remove the glare on her glasses. Then I used Topaz Adjust 4 and used portrait smooth on it.
I didn't want to do anything with the eye area because she is beautiful just like she is and this is the face she sees in the mirror everyday.

Hmmm... I kind of like your take on it. Interesting perspective. I like how you thought to leave it alone for the most part.. I also like the depth and the richness. I can see now that I flattened the image too much by what I did. I use content aware all of the time but I never thought to use it in this manner. Did you just do a fill or did you lessen the opacity? I am curious. You did a great Job! I too, have the Topaz suite. It never occurred to me to use it. Thank you very much.

*Personally,I think you went a bit too far. What we want to do is keep the lines in the face, but reduce them.
She has the nice dimple on her left side, so we want to keep that.

Oh - the EXIF data shows 1/30 shutter speed - that is one reason for the lack of sharpness. VERY hard to handhold at 1/30.
This is my quick attempt.

I like what photogrl did!
I hope you can duplicate it. Or close to it.
Pat

Edit: Wow! CaptainC is good, too!

Thank you. These is exactly the things I wish to know. This is the very reason why I chose this forum to belong to.

30th of a second? What on Earth was I doing at 1/30 sec.? God only knows.

Much appreciated!!!

Pretty neat, huh? I like what they both did. It is all a learning game. I now know what they did and why they did it. I am sure I can duplicate their processes. This will help tremendously.

CaptainC nailed it...it's a little bit more flattering without saying "I don't like they way you look!"

She's beautiful and smoothing a line or two isn't a bad thing.

You can do this very very easily in Lightroom also.

I have to admit, since I do so much portrait work, I have some PS plugins that are just for this kind of work. The one that did part of this is called Portraiture. MUCH faster than doing this is LR or PS, although you need those to host the plugin.

I also use the clone tool set to Lighten and 33% to spot soften under the eyes and some facial lines.

Out of the samples you posted I like #1 best, #2 looks like you over sharpened the mouth/teeth area and #3 she has lost all of "her" in the image.
