I got the 90mm Tamron macro with VC for Christmas and love it. As I understand it from Nikonian 72's instruction, I set the lens to 1:1 and moved the lens until I had focus, so I think this is true macro. This is refracted leaves in ice hanging from a tree. I know it is not great, but it was the best focus I could get. It' s not easy. C&C welcome, but be gentle.
Welcome to true macro. What you did and the way it looks it is a true macro shot. Yes, it is hard and you chose something very difficult for a beginner, but well done. For the refraction photos you can either focus on the water or the refracted object. For me it is the refracted image in the drop that is important. You shot looks like a miniature garden in the drop, but it is not quite in focus.
It took me an hour of trying to get one I liked.
Douglas describes the following as our mantra. Practice, practice, practice. You are way ahead of where I was when I started so keep it up. I look forward to your next post.
Nice capture! Looks like a falling water drop, suddenly stopped. Image downloads & enlarges nicely.
Welcome to the macro group RWCNRC. As John noted focus is off. That is to be expected on one's first go rounds with macro. Don't get discouraged as results will improve with practice. Illumination is good and that's half the battle with macro. The subject matter has potential and offers several avenues to explore. I like the glint of light refracted on the lower right portion of the droplet. The trapped air bubbles also offer a point for honing in focus/interest. The fractures might also be a feature to focus in on.
Enjoy the lens and I look forward to your participation in the group.

Thank you so much. Now that I figured out how to post from my iPad, I will post more. I used the search function on UHH to sort that out. That function is very helpful
Better than my first one, well done :)
About time for you to sport an avatar. I suggest this one, or similar.
Looks like e a great photo to me. Glad to see this, I am looking to
purchase the same lens for my T3i. The image looks sharp and all I've read about it, seems it a very good lens,
