We [taking my wife] are going to be spending some time in this area [not Disney] and looking for some photo opp locations. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Tampa may be too far away, but Big Cat Rescue is amazing.

P.S. Using square brackets confuses the forum software (but it doesn't mind parentheses).

Gatorland, which is reasonably priced and close, is a great place for taking photographs of both alligators and birds on a boardwalk trail in a natural habitat. 8-)

We were there in November. Two recommendations: Osceola County Schools Environmental Study Center has a great boardwalk through swamp land - some gators, tons of birds, etc. The Harry P. Leu Gardens had a surprising amount of color for that time of year. Lots of unusual plantings, and we spotted an otter frolicking in the adjacent lake.
Enjoy!

If you like to photograph wildlife then it's worth a drive (maybey 30 min) to the Circle B Bar preserve in Lakeland. It's free and has more wildlife than anyplace in central FL.

I have a question for you about the Big Cat rescue. Does one always have to shoot through fences to get photos of the cats? That is sort of a turn off to me. I live only a short distance from the facility and I see they have a pretty steep fee which I don't mind paying but not if I'm going to have a fence in every picture.

Yes, unfortunately there are complete fences for every cat. Except for the lions, the cats would get out of any open space.

Gatorland does not open the photography pass until January 30 if interested in getting in early. Gary
