Does this photograph have more appeal in a color or monochrome rendition?

Photographed at the Jones Beach State Park boat basin, New York, during the winter. Settings: ISO 100, 18mm, f/11, 1/60 of a second. Late afternoon light.

This is one of those images that fits both styles very nicely!!
VERY difficult to choose, and I don't usually care that much for the B&W on landscapes.....

The appeal for me is in the warm tones of the grasses, the light and the reflections - all of which are a bit lost in the b&w.

It could also be that the image is a little busy, with many small elements, to be attractive to me as b&w.

I'm a color person, but in this case I strongly prefer the b&w. I like the way the b&w shows the highlights of the grass. The broad orange band in the color version looks like too much dead brushy winter vegetation and pulls my eyes. The b&w lets me focus on the entire scene.

So far it looks like I'm the only one to prefer the b&w. I must admit, orange is my least favorite color so that probably has influenced my opinion.

I think if I would have seen the monochrome first, I would have chosen it, but once I saw that beautiful gold color, I was had.

My vote is for color on this one. The reddish highlites in the tall grass and building really make it stand out.

I think you just threw us a curve, the B&W has a beautiful loneliness that pulls at you, and makes me want to pull my collar up around my neck to ward off the chill. The color takes that same image and makes it warm and inviting.
I think the image is good enough that it overcomes both and stands on it's own! Congrats.

Phil

I prefer the BW, and I like the tinting (at least on my monitor), but I think I might crop to the inside of the lower right corner...from the brushy tree to the left of the building to the right edge, and up-down including the bright clouds to mid-river. That same crop would also work for me on the color version.

Definitely B&W for me. I see more of a story with the
sky/clouds.

Thanks Wahawk. I haven't been converting too many of my photographs to monochrome but thought this one looked good. 8-)
