A work in progress.
My daughter-in-law rented a car the last afternoon of a family visit in Portland to go to Cannon Beach. Threw me in the car with just my 'street' kit. Got on the beach just as the sun was setting.
Fuji X with pancake 18mm (27mm 35 equiv.). Shot wide open f/2.8.
I think that is candy-colored perfection. Love the composition with the small waves, the big rocks with their reflections, and the seagull. The sweet colors suit this calm ocean scene perfectly.
Looking at the thumbnail image it is gorgeous, but on download it quickly becomes apparent that the only thing in focus is the sand and the still water, which is beautifully lit by the glow of the sunset. I think stopping down your lens a bit would help. Use a tripod if the shutter speed is too slow for a hand held shot.
You were at F2.8. Even a F/5.6 would have gotten you a much sharper image depending on how far away you were and the lens you use.

Believe it or not I have a file at f/5. I always bracket. I was just reviewing the beach shots (mostly grandkids) to sent to daughter-in-law when I got way involved with editing this.
I will probably go back and edit that file but at the speed I go that could be months from now.
The first rock looks better in print and I can actually pull more detail in the sky from this image but it was too prominent.
Simple composition, clean lines, beautiful light. I like it.

Candy-colored. I like that.
Perhaps that is why I left in the banding in the sky. It pops out all too easy when editing and caused me some worry, but I like it in this image. A print (13x9) viewed from 6' away it is hardly noticed but as you get closer begins to pull you in.

I try to keep things simple, but lately have been getting deeper in editing. Not necessarily better.
It's all about the light and if we are lucky enough to catch it.

:?: :?: :?: How very odd! I have the download up on my monitor and what I see is wire sharp everywhere. There is detail everywhere, down to the deep shadow. The composition is very strong, and I think it's that lone gull that makes it. I know my 21.5" iMac monitor is very hi-rez and well calibrated, so I'm pretty sure that what I see is what I get. Curious.
Wonderful picture!

As a longtime resident of the Pacific Northwest (hoping to return someday) and a frequent visitor to Cannon Beach, you have managed to take a photograph that really captures the essence of the place. On my monitor, it is tack sharp, as well, and I'm really enjoying being back at Cannon Beach, if only through your lens.
The one thing that I noticed when I first saw this photo was the pink, and even though others have commented on it positively, for me, I think adding in a little more red or orange, replacing or reducing the pink, would make it a better photo.
Okay, I have downloaded it on two computers now, and I cannot see any detail in the rocks or the waves.

I like the shot. It looks sharp to me, maybe a tad over sharpened in post, but I can see detail everywhere. I like the pastel colors. I've seen Cannon Beach dressed in pink and blue so it is a very believable color palette for me. There does appear to be some banding in the sky, either from processing or something atmospheric, but probably could be smoothed in pp if you wanted to do that. I really like the way you captured the reflection of the rocks in the water, and the tension between the tiny gull/low rocks on the right and the huge sea stacks on the left.
Very nice composition, the soft colors are very pleasing to my eyes...added to the composition and color is some sharp detail; for example, the gull on the beach...well done...

Looks sharp, on my monitor, throughout the image....
