I hunted around for a place where I could sell off some other camera gear for at least as good a price as through Adorama or B&H and Calumet in Chicago worked its magic for me! I came away with the a99, fl60 flash, the battery grip, the 24-70 f2.8 Zeiss (beautiful), 32GB SD cards and 2 spare batteries. I'm now in Full-frame sensor land, and I love the camera. The deal I got was exactly what I wanted, now I have to really get to know the camera.

So far, my impressions of the shots are that they're very filmlike, but my EM-1 +12-40 (or 75mm) is as sharp or sharper.

Nice!

I suppose I can still talk to you...As long as you don't "Scott Kelby" us by switching brands altogether:-)

Of course, as I value our chats as well! I added this FF Sony because I've been wanting something that is not crop sensor format (m4/3s) for primarily low-light purposes. I sold off a bunch of older gear that I'd accumulated but didn't like, or use anymore, and they accomodated me nicely. I still have the Oly gear, and I still love it, respect it, and use it! I can say from experience that the sensor in the EM-1 is absolutely as sharp, detailed and relatively noise-free (at most shooting light situations) as anything out there. But, I'm going to have some fun with the A99 as well, and I have no intention of loading up on a bunch of expensive lenses that weigh half a ton. I'll si tight with the 24-70 f2.8 Zeiss for a good long while. I'll use the Oly if I want any more reach.

The a99 looks (spec-wise) looks like a top notch camera.

Thanks very much! It's something that sort of "came my way" (even though I was admittedly looking for it), and so far I do love it, right alongside my Oly EM-1 and EP-5 (my first children!).

CD, the specs are decent but the ergonomics are what's really nice for my hands. It's sort of rounded and almost bulbous compared to the EM-1. It has a rounded form which makes it very "hand-friendly". Also, it has an EVF (like the Oly!), and is, essentially, mirrorless. I think Photographyblog has the best review of it, and certainly the most complete of any that I've read on-line. Ken Rockwell's is kinda accurate regarding the autofocus, too.
Thanks for the kind words!

Do make good use of the in camera HDR and sweep panorama - they are game changers IMHO !

The in-camera panorama sounds very interesting, so thanks for the heads-up. I've got to get to know it better before I can comment on it more intelligently.

Cd, kelby is one of the most respected photographers and Nikon users on the planet. To switch, he'd have to have one hell of a reason!!

After giving this fact much thought, as to WHY he would switch, I'm convinced that at or near the top of his list of reasons has to be sponsorship (not to mention ergonomics and skin tones). Or just maybe he got bored with his Nikon stuff and thought he'd try "the other guy". To each his own, but I like the Olympus EP-5 and EM-1, and I think I'll love the Sony A99.
And by the way, I think Kelby would generate terrific images with ANY camera... he's very talented.

I thought Kelby switched to Canon from Nikon, for the ergonomics and skin tones, at least thats what I thought he said on the Youtube video. Congrats on the a99, my wife has the a77 and I've been drooling over the a99 ever since I played with her a77. The two cameras are similar in lay out.

You're exactly right, I confused him with this other photographer... my mistake. Canon does have better colors in general than Nikon, I think, but what do I know? I'm a little spoiled having been an Olympus shooter for quite a while (Canon before that). And now, I'm involved with this Sony (so far so good... got to get to know it though).

Yesterday, while browsing the Adorama USED site for lenses, I saw an A99 Body rated E- for about $2100. I told by buddy about it, but I think it's still there, and that is a good price (depending on the actuations).
