HELP! Printing red instead of blue.

I am having problems with my Canon Pro 9500 mkII. Some of my landscapes prints are coming out with a red sky. I thought I had seen some dialog on this subject here on UHH but I did not see anything in the search that I did. Out here in the desert the sky can take on a dark blue that really pleasant. It is not so pleasant when you printer thinks they should be red.

I am using the same profiles that I always use and I ran the clean heads maintenance function but to no avail. This has happened before and I did nothing to fix it because it just went away.

If anyone can help me I know that there is a UHH member that will. I have a chance to sell some of the prints but red skies sort of kills that idea for the minute.

Might be obvious, but perhaps you're out of ink in one of the toner/cartridges

Clean your print heads and run a print test. Clogged print head will produce the exact same result.

As I have stated in my original post, I have done that. It only happens on some pics where the sky is a very deep blue. I am wondering if it could be an "out of gamut" problem. I cannot believe that the blue in these pics is not in the color space though.

It might be in the color space, but not inside the printer's gamut. About the only way you can test it is to tweak the sky to a lighter shade of blue and see how that prints.

You can also try sending the file(s) off to an online printing service or even your local staples/Office Max to print and see if they get different results.

Have you run a printer profile using a color management system like XRite or Spyder? They might help with an out of gamut shading.

I started to change the color a bit before printing but was interrupted and forgot what I was doing! LOL. It is hell getting old. I have had my prints done by third party printers and they come out fine. I just had some other thoughts that I will try. I am writing them down now so I will not forget. Ha!

Thanks for your suggestion Mike.
