Taking It to the Streets
..
I got to work a little early this afternoon and decided to hoof it around the block to stretch my legs. I've worked for the local Transit Authority at the shop in east Dallas for 30 years but I always seem to find something new. The 1st 2 shots are Robert & his rig. I've known Robert on & off for 20+ years. Hes a good guy. (photos are used with his permission) The next shot is the world famous It'll Do Club..... This was a 'Pressure Cooker' hang-out for housewives in the 60's..... ;)
This 2nd set is the sort of stuff I spot on a routine basis
..
You really captured the flavor of the neighborhood.
Thanks.... I've seen it go through 2 low income transitional phases. The latest reincarnation is hi-rise condos. Developers are buying up entire blocks of houses and leveling the sites. (single dwelling and duplexes built in the 20's & 30's) I have mixed feelings about this.....

I understand. The very old neighborhood I grew up in is still there but has deteriorated to the point that someone will tear it all down soon (if the rust belt city that it is in ever grows again, that is).
Thanks for posting your photos. I'm in Dallas and haven't really posted much from Dallas, but I think I'll get out and take some. Do you know the Dixie House? I think I'll make it one of my shots.

Sounds good... It's a unique structure with it's tiled roof and clock-face. Mmmmm... chicken fried steak!... I would really like to do some walkarounds in Lakewood. My son and his family live there. (he's the chef at the Garden cafe) It's a pretty unique part of the Dallas scene. The neon on the Lakewood theater marquee would make a cool night shot.... Lots of great old houses... Whiterock lake just up the street. Somebody should shoot the double arched entrance to Woodrow Wilson High School...

My daughter was 6th in her class at Woodrow. I know it well. Here are a few from White Rock in 2011.
Very nice shots, ajohnston3! Love the close-up in #1!

Robert is a interesting individual. He's well spoken and unfailingly polite. I've asked him a few leading questions from time to time but he does not seem to be inclined to discuss his situation. If nothing else he is a almost daily reminder of how blessed I am.
