I just received the camera as a gift. I'm shooting in RAW and I can't open them on my PC. I did install the software that came with the camera. How do I go about opening the RAW photos and shouldn't I be able to edit them with software that came with the camera. I do have a older version of Photoshop Student edition from 2009. I also have Photoshop Elements 6 an older version. I am new to all this. I love the camera.
Thanking you in advance.

Did you load all the software that came with your Canon PowerShot SX50 HS?
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sx50_hs#DriversAndSoftware

Open Digital Photo Professional
Browse to the folder with your photos
Click the photos you want to edit
Choose Edit image window
And go from there

St3v3n, that is how you open a folder that is already in your computer.
With DPP loaded, I use the card readers in my computer. I plug in the card and the Zoom Browser EX automatically opens and gives the option to download fotos. The ZoomB might be a separate disc, can't remember. Unfortunately it's the only way I've ever done it, and it works flawlessly.
If Tater has a card reader, it should be a breeze. ;-)

I use the Camera Window that came on the CD to download direct from the camera. Then if you open a window to the folder with the RAW (CR2) files, just double-click on one of them and IF all the software was properly installed, then DPP should open that file.

I don't know about the 50HS but I'll bet it came witth a cable that plugs into a USB port. Connect it to the camera, plug it in, and then turn the camera on. The interrupt will prod DPP(if you have it installed) and give you the option to download and where. Yes, this uses the battery but I find pulling the card a PITA. ;) And if you don't have a card reader the only way.
