My last camera (over ten years old) busted, now I have the Fujifilm HS20 EXR camera. At first I was going to return it because I couldn't get a clear picture. I changed many settings and finally got a few clear pictures. I'm not sure what I did to get these pictures. The fountain pictures show something different. One shows the water fall the other shows the water drops???? Don't know what settings I used. I'm just glad they are fairly clear.
Also can you help me. I am trying to figure out how to get a clear image with the background out of focus? Not sure how to do this? I'm just playing around on these pictures. Definately a new bee!

Welcome to the group. It looks like you've got that Fuji figured out pretty well

Congrats on your new camera! You're not alone in assuming the latest release of bridge cameras will give you great photos right out of the box. But, the HS20 is a very sophisticated piece of equipment and while it can get things pretty close right out of the box in many of the EXR or scene modes, it can't out-think a human. Bridge cameras can do a lot of things well. However, blurred backgrounds require a little work. Your subject has to be a pretty good distance from the background and your aperture has to be wide-open (small f-numbers). To do this, you'll have to get close to the subject and rein-in the zoom.

go into A setting on top dial, and make sure the f number is a low as it will go ,probably f2.8 and you should get a blurred backdround, let me know. Graham

I've also just upgraded to the HS20 after many years of good service from my Canon S5IS, my best suggestion is to play with the settings in aperture (A) and shutter (S) settings first then play around with both in manual (M), however check your ISO settings anything above ISO400 on the HS20 seems to be noisy so set to an ISO lower then 400 (I've set mine to 100 for now) or auto400 (full auto mode only allows this as a minimum), which will auto select ISO's up to 400 max depending on the shot.
