There is a factual saying in recovery circles "Drugs and Alcohol will give you 3 things- Jails, Institutions & Death" not necessarily in that order"
If you want to get first hand info on what Alcohol and drugs do to people - most all addicts these days are dual addicted - go to a local AA's monthly (OPEN) speakers meeting with an open mind - see what recovery can do and see the hope in new comers.
I have been a student of recover and in recovery for 24 yrs.

Actually, if you were to study the brain scans of advanced alcoholics, you wouldn't see all that much difference in reduced neural activity- except for brain shrinkage- about 10 to 20 percent, based on length of time spent abusing alcohol, or the equivalent of the brain of an 80+ year old patient suffering advanced dementia. It will no doubt prove more than just a bit interesting to evaluate scans of elderly life-long pot abusers, in turn.
