Been looking for a Camera Backpack. Going nuts. Need one to fit not only the DSLR but a Sigma 150-500mm lens. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Probably won't use it more than 1/2 a dozen times in a year.

Thanks

Ed

I have the same lens and needed a back pack that won't get used any mote then that either---last fall I ordered a tamrac expedition 6x. Haven't used it yet, but the lens on the camera fits in there nice and secure with lots of room for other stuff too.
A little more money than I wanted to pay --but now it is a done deal and I don't have to keep looking

Weirdly enough, one of the most difficult purchase to make.

I cannot help as I have the same problem plus the added difficulty of adding am 18' laptop to the gear. So far only 17' backpack are available...

Since your use seems limited, why not consider a sling pack? It gives better access to your gear.

I simply place my shoulder strap camera bag into a slightly larger, standard backpack bag. Works great and saves money, especially if you already have both of those items.

I don't know if you will find an answer you are confident with unless you go to a good camera store and try them out, with the gear in it. The weight distribution is a big factor with a single large lens like that.

I use the ThinkTank Airport Essential with a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 lens, which is slightly larger than your Sigma, and 2 lbs heavier, and there's plenty of room for the DSLR and a bunch of lenses and gear. The big lens is in the middle, so balance is good. This bag fits under the seat in the plane, so it's my "personal item" when I fly. It's also $185, and I don't know what your budget is.

Thanks for the pictures Greg. Looks like that might just do the trick.

That's the backpack I have.
2 pro bodies, 1 with lens attached.
3 extra lenses, speedlite w/external battery pack, cables.
Filters and cleaner in the lid.
And that just in the main part.

Then I've got a LumiQuest softbox, HONL speedstrap and attachments for speedlite, notebook, and business cards, in the laptop section.
Multiple batteries and memory cards in the 'wing' pockets.

The tripod holding 'system' didn't work out for me. My tripod/monopods are too tall.

Just know that Tamrac just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
