I've been searching for one of these for a long time. Finally found one hiding in the reeds. Not the best shot but I'm really happy I got this one.

I'd be happy too! Hard to focus thru all the reeds. Nice job!

Now that's a hard bird to photograph! Not only through the reeds, but just that it's so secretive! Your work speaks well of your stalking ability too...! h2

Our first trip to New York City in the spring of 2000 we walked around the north part of Central Park. I took some photos of one of these standing on a rock in the water about 20 feet away in Harlem Meer with my Panasonic Lumix gem of a little point and shoot camera. Little did I know back then! Those were the first and last photos I ever took of a Night Heron although we saw some roosting high up in tall pines in Point Loma in San Diego.

Glad you finally got your pictures and shared them with us.

These are nicely shot. I love that everything is so crisp, clear and sharp. I also think the colors could not be better. Everything looks good!

Thanks! At first all I could see was a little part of him but I knew it was different. Looking through the 500mm lens I suspected it was a night heron. It was more about patience than stalking. I waited about 2 hours before he moved into a position where I could get this much.
