I hope I'm not intruding with an unorthodox type of bird, but I figured this forum would have the best expertise to help me. And, yes, I am interested in the feathered variety too.
As you can see from the attached sorry example of photography, I really need some advice on shooting BIF, whether feathered or metal. Or, do I just need practice, practice, practice.
Camera: Fujifilm HS50EXR
Hand held
Aperature: f9.0
Shutter : 1/1600
ISO : 100
FL : 142.8mm 135 equiv.
Scenario: A "fly day" for two of the war-birds at the Flying Heritage Collection, Paine Field, Everett, Washington. At the start of each pass the approaching planes dropped below the heads in front of me and rose to view at the end of the runway on the far side of the field going away. At that point I got them in the viewfinder, zoomed in (re-find them in viewfinder), hit the BBF and shutter. This went on for about an hour.
This is the single best photo I got!
Any hope for me, or do I stick to Landscapes?

Well, this is not exactly what we had in mind for this section but, shooting planes in flight is not much different than shooting birds in flight. I do have a few questions, though.
Have these been cropped? Were they underexposed and adjusted in post processing? How many AF points did you use?

It has been cropped - about the lower right quadrant.
Slightly under exposed. Overall, this is the best I could do with the RAW exposure. PP in Camera Raw 7.4
No AF. I was on manual focus and used the back button.
Thank you for accepting this photo. I realized it was not what the section was intended for, but thought that the best help would be from ones proficient in flying objects.
:)
Cheers, Neil
I always use AF and practice, practice, practice.
I'll try AF some more; I thought that continuous AF would be the best way to go, but after a number of tries it seems like manual with BBF gives me better (although limited) results. Digital shots are free, and I think I need to shoot the bejesus out of the seagulls on the waterfront.
Thanks for looking and commenting.
Cheers, Neil
