I have an old Carl Zeiss 1.4 55MM lens (used on my old Yashika camera with bayonnet mount) that I hardly used. I was at a camera shop and asked if I could use this on my new Nikon D7000 and they said "maybe" if I could find a converter. Does anyone know if I can do this?

Adaptor ring if you can find one, and in manual mode. I believe so. But check with the Nikon guys here I'm sure they can tell you for sure.

If you can find an adapter, it will mount & take photos. Unless the adapter has optics, it will not focus to infinity & if it has optics, it will act as a mild teleconverter & the image quality will be comprimised...There are lots of older Nikon mount lenses out there...Just find one of those & you will be more satisfied ( just don't mount any Pre Ai Nikkor that has not been modified...)

Thanks, sounds like I would be better off selling this lens and buying a new one - seems like a lot less hassle. This old CZ was supposed to be a great lens and was just trying to take advantage of it - might be better off selling it unless I want to go back to my Yashica and shooting film again.

Call Adorama.com at 800-223-2500 and ask them what you need. There in the business to help and will. I have a Canon digital and got some lens from a film camera and need a adapter, got luck got one on ebay for $30. I'm not saying go on ebay for this, I just got luck. Go to Adorama or a camera shop some one you can talk to. Good Luck

Canon's register distance is a lot shorter than Nikon's thus making it easier to mount & use other brand mounts on a Canon DSLR (with the proper adapter) without losing infinity focus...A dealer like Adorama would tell him the same thing I have...

Out of curiosity, I looked online & found this adapter
http://www.linkdelight.com/L2P-Contax-/-Yashica-To-Nikon-Lens-Adapter-C/Y-to-Nikon.html
It's cheap enough if you want to get it & try it out just to see if you like the results. It has a corrective lens to allow for infinity focus, but metering info would not be transmitted....
I use a number of older manual focus lenses on a Nikon D70s & have used adapters (both with & without the glass element) to use some of my old M42 screw mount lenses. Fun to play around with, but it can be a pain at times

Nothing wrong about breaking out the " old Yashica" again.
Fuji makes some awsome slide film. Scan it!

Do you know if M42 lenses using a K mount on an old Pentax MX focuses to infinity? I just bought a Marumi, made in Japan M42 to K adapter. I sort of assumed a made in Japan accessory would be better made. It is steel, with a lock and the threads are perfect.

I'm not sure, but it may...My old M42 lenses are for Yashica & Practika cameras & I don't have any experience with Pentax bayonet mouns

randymoe-for the M42 lens to focus to infinity, the K adapter must mount so that it is even with the surface of the camera. If the thickness of the adapter extends past the surface of the camera the lens will not focus to infinity
because of that small extension.
