Your historical pics.just shows how terrible war really is. My dad was in WWll, he fought in the battle of the bulge, under General Patton's 3rd Army, fifth division, 10th infantry. He also told terrible stories of men dying in the fight for freedom.

Yes, WWII - the world sequel to the war to end all wars.

There is a fact that few people in the US either do not know or do not remember. At the end of WW2 the US literally owned the following countries- Italy-France-west Germany-Spain-the Netherlands- Scandanavia-Poland-Austria-Japan- The Phillipines-most of the Western Pacific Islands-part of China- all of North Africa-and a few countries I have forgotten. We had every right under international law to declare these conquered territories American Territories. After all thats what Russia Did, As did every other conquering country had done throughtout history. But We DID NOT. Under the Marshall Plan we elected to restore these liberated countries to self rule. We spent ahuge amount of money and effort do this. We did not bill these countries for their restoration. All of the oil discovered in North Africa was developed by American Companies with no help from the contries involved. Many of those countries now Compete with the US in Manufacturing. This is one of the many reasons why the US is a very exceptional country. Something that our current president does not acknoledge. We should remind France etc that if not for the US their national language would, if not for the US, would to this day be German. By the way every one screamed at Bush fo going into Iraq for the oil. To this day we have not taken 1 oz of oil fron Iraq.
The most wonderful and magical word, "FREEDOM".
because it was either them or us
Ah,those were the good old days.

For Freedom from a Dictator!
The liberation of Europe was accomplished by the Allied forces of the USA, England, and Canada. I just love it when I read how the Americas take full credit for a joint endeavor..typical

I think that we were very politic at the time to make that point. The Marshall Plan, however, and the re-building of Europe was all U.S. as far as I know. It was, perhaps, as incredible as winning the war. Perhaps it's our problem with Iraq and Afghanistan. We're leaving two war-torn countries and we're doing nothing at this point to re-build them. We're leaving them to do nothing but continue to fight.
Jerry....I think these photos, too, show just how dramatic b&w can be.
Same then as now, freedom, right for self determination.
When the likes of Hitler destroy nations for the sake of domination, free people must fight and win, or live like Russians, Cubans, N Koreans or under Muslim cult domination.
Say what you will about allied victory. You neglected to mention the Russians, who lost millions, or DeGaulle, who tried to convince himself that he won the war single0-handedly, as did Field Marshall Montgomery. But the reality is that the US carried the day-- in all-out war effort industrial production supplying England, the Soviet Union and more, as well as significant numbers of troops in both theaters. Imagine the likely outcome, had the US instead decided to stay home and sit it out. After all, WWI was billed as the "War to end all wars." Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
