Excellent shots Kerfree.Looking at the download It definatly
looks like fishing line and maybe the hook is still attached. With luck the hook will rust and fall out but as Treepusher says report it to your local animal welfare people.

Hi Jim, I think you are right - i hadn't thought about there being a hook caught in him too! That thought got me calling around right away! Happily the wildlife rescue center just received a Pelican fitting his description this weekend, so he will be rehabilitated and hopefully able to return to the tree tops with his pals. Thank you for your kind words and your excellent advice!

I would call and report the location and what you saw. They are there to help and I had great luck with a baby dolphin in Texas. As someone said for piece of mind at least.

Jscott, I tracked down the wildlife rehabilitation center yesterday and happily they have a Pelican just brought in to them from the same beach. Hoping it is my little guy!

That is great that you were able to help the baby dolphin. Excellent!

I just adore Pelicans and have so much fun trying to do justice to their muted, but stunning beauty with my camera! This first Pelican was such a friendly poser, while all the rest kept a safe distance up in the trees or on the water. Now I think I know why and am wondering if I should follow up with a game warden?

These images were taken on Friday on Sanibel, but it wasn't until I got back to Maine that I downloaded them, which is when I first noticed what appears to be a fishing line dangling among the feathers of his wing, that may be grounding him.

Accepting advice on both the Pelican and my images. These are the first I've attempted to process in Photoshop, so I'm feeling a more than a little nervous about posting....
