Shortly after posting yesterday and complaining about the lack of opportunities to shoot in my back yard this winter, along came the Bohemian Waxwings. We usually get them twice a year, once for the ash tree berries and once for our crap apples. Yesterday they went after the crap apples ...the did not stay long but long enough for a couple of shots.

Very nice! I like the soft and subtle vignette.
If you could manage to get a sparkle in the bird's eye, they would be perfect.
You might try off camera flash, if at all possible, or trying to shoot with the sun behind you so it will sparkle.
Believe me, I know that wildlife rarely cooperates.
Nice work.

Thank you Brjomd! Sunlight is seldom an option this time of year. I often use an off camera flash ...they just came and went so quickly yesterday there was no chance to set it up. They will be back, lots of crab apples left. It am generally more successful getting the catchlight, take a look at the Chickadees in this post: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-176793-1.html

Thank very much Heirloom. I am hoping for more in the next couple of weeks when they come back to finish off the crap apples. They are flock birds and it is not unusual to have 100 or more attack the tree at one time. It is quite a sight.

Beautiful images of a very lovely bird. I get to enjoy cedar waxwings in central WA, not sure if I've seen the Bohemian.

Thank you Linda. I have never seen a Cedar Waxwing in person. Maybe someday soon.

Here is a shot from yesterday showing how many can cluster on a single tree ...reminds me of a plague of locus at times.
