Beauty dish

I am interested in buying a beauty dish....preferably a 22" white, however I see there are 16" and 18" out there and I'm wondering if any of you have experience with these dishes? Is there a big difference in the results between these various sizes? Also does the white really make a softer image? I see silver and alum? Also is there a dish that will work with studio lights as well as speed light?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

White is softer, no doubt, and the main difference in size of a beauty dish is portability UNLESS you are using it for full body or multiple people shots. Then size matters! If you are using the dish for the standard clamshell beauty portrait, 16" works just fine. So does an umbrella.
