I have read about slide clean up byr brush and film cleanner for abunch of nice UHH members and I thank them. Has anyone tried avacun cleaner with a small att for that purpose?????rather than moveing dust and abree around you would remove it

That might cause a static charge build-up which would attract dust. I found a soft brush best unless your slides have gotten extremely dusty.

I have had pretty good luck with a mini-vac. It is not super powerful, but does get the less stubborn dust. I use an anti-static brush before I use it.

Agreed. The mini-vacs designed for computers are generally static-supprescent and come with a soft (usually sable) brush attachment. Do NOT buy cheap!

After digitizing, dust spots can easily be removed in photoshop if they are not too numerous.

The attached pict was taken in 1970 over the Gulf of Tonkin. The camera was a Nikkormat, using Asa200 film. I think the lens was the much maligned 48-86 Zoom. I scanned this to disc along with several others two years ago at Costco. The slides were old dirty and slightly discolored.
I've cleaned them up somewhat in CS5 using Camera Raw. I'm still learning so I revisit them when I learn something new.
I'm going to rescan several because they scanned them backwards. I'll clean them this time with a can of air.

They were slides and I took them to Costco and had them scanned directly to disc.
Its not expensive and unless you have hundreds to do way more cost effective than buying a good (Nikon etc) scanner.
If you go that route make sure you ID which is the front side. I had several done backward. Might have been my own fault.
