This ice formed on the inside of our bathroom window during the sub 0 weather.

Used a 100mm macro lense along with along with 68mm of Kenco extension tubes.

Nice ice crystals. I've never shot them before but it seems to me there should be more DoF. What was your aperture set to?

Welcome to the True Macro forum. You have fallen in with a bunch of obsessive macro people. You seem to have started with a tough nut. To take a macro photo with a macro lens, plus a full set of tubes, of ice, on glass even sounds hard. I have never taken a macro of condensation ice, but it doesn't seem to be in critical focus. The edges are not sharp like I think they should be

I have taken photos of frost on a window and have had the same result - the appearance of a lack of dof. But, remember, that the frost is very thin and there is very little of dof to be gotten.

My aperture was set at f/16. I guess I could of tried a higher aperture setting and tried to sharpen out the diffraction.

I noticed the same apparent lack of sharpness. Not much experience doing this with a DSLR, so I don't know what the issue might be either. As I look at this, and thinking about how thin the ice was, I'm wondering if backing off to f5.6 might help. Could this just be diffraction run amok?
Hey, that could be a Macro Forum Rock Band: "Diffraction Run Amok" :-P

I guess when they say take your camera with you everywhere, I guess you took it to heart, you never know. I think that is a great shot. Thanks

7D - f16 with tubes is too small. Open the aperture to f10/f11 and I think you will see better results.

Thanks A-Peer. Will try that next time the opportunity presents itself.
