I played around with this in both color and B&W and I ended up with what I think is more than just another flower picture. (although it is still something of a cliche)

Very nice. Which BW method did you use?

I just chose black and white in Lightroom and "fiddled" with settings until I was happy with it.
I admire those folks that can produce those special luminous B&Ws. Those prints that seem to be emitting light rather than reflecting it. I've never been able to do it.

You may already know this, but if you go to the histogram, put your cursor in the rightmost area (highlights). Move it to the right until the clipping triangle appears, and then back off a tad. You can do the same with the mid tones ( either direction)' and the darker tones (move to the left). It's also fun to play with the color sliders while in BW mode.

I know how to get blown out areas to display red and blocked shadow areas to display blue but I've never tried moving the actual histogram itself around. I'll give it a try.

I like the texture that draws you deep into the center of the flower.

You caught the beauty of that creation. It was hard to take my eyes off of it.
