Jerry, my comment was meant that while you get off the list for one specific advertiser that action may be used to add your address to several others run by that bulk emailing service. In getting off the one you may have directly, by giving your email address, listed yourself on many others that that bulk emailing service. I am not sure about this, but I found once I opted out I started getting more. Not responding seems to get me off the list in time.
I've heard that, but that hasn't been my experience. Many advertisers don't want to antagonize their base, so they give us the chance to avoid their emails.
The worst are those sites that offer a free iPad, or something, just for answering a few questions. You wind up entering your email address a dozen times before you give up. This would go on all day, and you would never get an iPad. You would get loads of junk email, though. This type of thing used to be very popular, but I think people might have wised up to it enough that they don't do it anymore.
