Challenge - Thursday Jan. 9 thru Saturday Jan. 11 - 'Still Life'

Another challenge for you.....Still Life. I have seen some terrific Still Life photography posted and decided I wanted to learn more; and sharing tips would be very helpful so we can all learn from each other.....that may include set up and lighting, etc. I started out with some flowers and then added other items in my shots; I used natural lighting, candle light, and an LED flashlight for my lighting sources. This may be one time I can be happy for the extreme cold so did not make me feel quite so guilty staying indoors. And it also gave me the opportunity to work more with my post processing software. (But still need to work on more bubble shots Clicker!)

and globed
and in Corel Paintshop used the distortion effect...Polar Coordinates.....something that Clicker taught us

Hey...thanks Pat. And yes....you and everyone have my permission to purchase some flowers. Not only to work with but needed on these long winter days.

What a great start Irene! Absolutely great still life photography! You seem to have great control of your lighting. #1 is really nicely done and The orange flowers are wonderful...so sharp! And I also see you have mastered the globe! :-).. Thanks for hosting! Should be a fun challenge.

I did go out and buy flowers one day. And auto parts the next. Found a great little still life along the way.

Your flowers are perfect Bushido....as well as the metal pieces....and love the little frog! Can I ask what you used for light....I'm getting a lot of reflections and you will see this as I post more.

Irene, I use several thing to light the objects. The first thing to remember is that light reflects at the same angle it strikes, so look in your camera for hot spots and move your lights around until they are diminished. You can use flood lights that can be purchased at the hardware store. A piece of white cardboard makes a wonderful reflector. A white sheet when placed in front of the source will defuse the light and cut down on hot spots. Your best bet is to experiment. I am getting ready to leave for California. When I return if you are still interested I will set up some lights and photograph how they can be arranged. This is a great subject. Happy shooting.
