Went out on Sunday to see if I could capture some BIF shots with my new 80-400. I started out shooting in manual, which is usually how I always shoot, but I was having a real hard time with the exposure due to the rapidly changing background while the birds were coming into the pond.
I switched over to "A" Priority and that seemed to help tremendously. this is something I have never tried before but based on some feedback from here on UHH I gave it a whirl.
What do you think?
I know in some of these the background is very busy but I only had so much to work with.
impressive. love the glider.
Thanks! That is one of my favorites as well.
WOW youve outdone yourself.

Good work, the busy background is always a challenge since it confuses the AF, you have done well to keep the birds in sharp focus in spite of the busy background. Well done.
Great shots and you have to be thrilled with the new lens...love the Wood Ducks.

Thank you indrajeet for the kind remarks. I have sooooo much to learn, but I am having a blast doing so.

Thank you very much! I absolutley love the new lens. It's AF is greatly improved and faster than the 70-300 for sure and that helps a bunch.
With my 70-300 I would be lucky to get maybe 1-2 shots on a BIF in focus out of a sequence or two. With this lens I am finding I can get the majority of them in focus.
Now I just need to learn the best way to shoot this lens hand held to get as sharp a picture as I can.
Lovely to see and Thankyou.
What a great set very well done.
The background's may be busy but your subject is sharp & stands out which I think is what's important. Nice job!
