I love these birds. I can't tell what the white speck is.

The white speck? Looks like a high flying jet to me.

Kim, are you getting your beautifully sharp pics with your 70-300mm VR lens? I'm drooling over an 80-400mm, but if you're getting yours with a 70-300mm and your D7100, I might be able to content myself with the same. Thanks, Betty

Kim, I figure I stumbled on my answer myself in the "Nikkor 70-300 VR: BIF/BOWs post here" posts. Betty

I am very happy with my lens. I don't know about the 80-600. Someone just told me Tamron is coming out soon with a 90-600. Never enough money or lenses.

ISO 200, f5.6, 1/1250 sec.

I think I was is Aperture mode, although I generally try Shutter 1/1600 or higher with ISO adjusted as necessary, for birds in flight.

Kim, your 70-300mm lens photos and the posts and pictures on "Nikkor 70-300 VR: BIF/BOWs post here" ended my months of stewing about an 18/28-300 vs an 80-400 vs the 70-300mm. Last night I ordered a refurbished 70-300 from Robert's Camera. A few weeks ago JerryC41 told me he purchased his refurbished D7100 from Robert's. I figure I can dream about the 80-400 awhile longer or wake up and be content with what I've got.
