I'm sorry I don't fit your "grouping" of gay people. I'll gladly bring it up until I have equal rights.

Hey dirtpusher, just a pet peeve. The word is "and", not "an”. You screw that up in almost every post you make.

And, just so you know, it's "a bit", not abit. And iota has no hyphen. And the word after a period should be capitalized. And it's "doesn't", not "don't". Just don't want you to sound uneducated. Glad I could help.

The right to a life without threat of violence, bigotry and hate.

If art grandpa was talking about anything else then he wouldn't be treated to this wall of hate. He would be respected as someone passionate about the things important in life. But because he's cares about the plight of gay people he has come in for abuse and hate. His peaceful enjoyment of life is constantly under attack by bigots and hate-mongers. If there were more people like Art Grandpa who were willing to stand up for themselves the world would be a better place.

Unfortunately, as this thread has proved as soon as he asks for equal treatment he's knocked down and told to hide away.

This is disgusting. Why would you deny someone their very nature? You try and discredit him and refuse to honour his word. There's been enough gay erasure, with people talking in code when referring to gay people and simply refusing to respect their very being that someone have the courage to stand up and proudly speak about something that brings them hate from so many is to be applauded.

Wasn't the word "gay " applied as a " code " word back in the '70s?

I don't know. If it was then I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. People are still living in fear of persecution for being gay. How many teenagers live lives in fear of bullying and hate in school purely because they're gay. If they feel the need to hide that for personal security I have no problem with it. I think the reaction to Art Grandpa shows why people would be fearful of being out and proud. So I have to applaud Art's courage in not giving in to people who would rather he hide aspects of himself.

And congrats on your wedding Art Grandpa. Maybe some day everywhere will recognise that everyone deserves the right to declare their love for another.
