I have previously done a few websites using iWeb software, which Apple is choosing to abandon. I now need to do a major update of a site, and am thinking now is the time to start over using another software package. I was wondering if anyone out there is still committed to iWeb, or what software you have switched to?
I have in the past liked iWeb because even though it is a bit limited from an animation point of view, it is quite intuitive and easy to establish page formats and link to photo sites etc.
Cheers,
JH

It's a shame, it was so,so easy to create web pages with iWeb! Maybe you can still continue using current version. What could be the problem if you continue using it; compatibility with things to come or what??

I built one with SiteSpinner which is easy to use and does a good job, but I don't have any animation on mine.

Two potential issues from continuing to us iWeb -
Firstly, I may be missing out on new technology and flexibility with the website.
Secondly, eventually, hosting companies may stop supporting iWeb.
Thinking that if I am going to switch software, now is the time to do it.

Here is one I used recently and I was happy with the results. You should check it out. I believe the cost was $7.00 for the basic version.

Two to consider ..
WordPress see this great tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CjDn7A-AJM

I use currently a drag and drop website builder called Weebly that I like very much and do not need coding background or knowledge (but plan to learn some basic code to edit there themes). It seems it will satisfy my photo gallery itch.

Now, I just started building it and spent about 2 hours so far ... so it is work in progress (trying to duplicate the word press site in tutorial above). Check out http://photoforay.weebly.com/

Weebly offers one or two free sites to try their builder - I have the premium subscription.

I've used Wordpress. It's free, or for $99 a year you get your own URL. It's a bit sluggish to arrange photos but otherwise is kinda fun once you learn WP.
I like 500px. The 1st 14 days are free at the top tier. The bottom tier is free, the top tier and also 2nd tier I believe offer a marketing took plus you can arrange photos by sets. 500px is compared a lot to Flikr.
Photoshelter is another website for photographers you might want to consider.

Try SmugMug or Zenfolio. My photo site is done on Zenfolio. Reasonably priced and easy to figure out.

I use jAlbum, which is very simple to use and I believe is mainly designed to create photography sites. You can see my site at http://www.fatelyfoto.com and their URL is http://www.jalbum.net

SmugMug is the best, it work for me.
The domain name is what make you site. I use godaddy for mine.
www.snapstop2010.com
www.noveltyPHOTObooth.com
www.billybobimages.com
www.bbnpb.com All go to my smugmug account where I display and sell my images.
You can have the best web site on the web and not get a hit. The key word is TRAFFI hits to you domain. The I do it and its FREE. I use Key words and took a week going to every free search engine on the web I could find and put my domain on it.
Make you domain short like if its Joe Blows Photography make if www.jbp.com its EZer for peple to find you. The info of your service (key words)is the thing. Good Luck

Thanks Bob.
I just watched the entire youtube tutorial and thought it was great. I like the direction your site is taking too.

I think I made the mistake of using Network Solutions as a host as they are too difficult to deal with. I like the idea of editing the site on a regular basis by just going online. So it comes down to which system has the best "format templates".

Did you need to buy the template as the youtube video says with wordpress, or is it more like iWeb, that has standard themes to choose from?
Thanks much,
JH

Karelia Software has developed Sandvox purposely for Mac users who have used iWeb. I purchased it to develop both a genealogy and a photo website. A2hosting.com has been recommended by some that supports Sandvox. Check it out.
