Which photo would you enter in a photo contest
I am seriously considering entering one of these two shots in a photo contest and I find myself vacillating as to which one to enter. Make the assumption that you are going to enter one of these two shots in a contest - which would you choose, and if you don't mind taking the time, I would like to know the rationale for your choice.
As an aside, I just had the direct eye contact shot printed by AdoramaPix in metallic form (aluminum) with a wood backing to stand it out from the wall. The results were knockout amazing. The metallic print brings it so alive it just knocked my socks off when it arrived yesterday. If you have ever considered doing a metallic wall hanger, I heartily recommend them!

I'd choose the one with the direct eye contact because those eyes are mesmerizing and its a less seen view, the side view more common. Both are beautiful.
I'm not an expert, but I would pick #1. I like seeing both eyes, and more of the face is in focus with the beak being less prominent. I think seeing both eyes grabs your attention more, and they're such beautiful eyes.
I'd enter the first one. There's something about having both of those fierce eyes and the frown-line mouth aimed at the observer that would make it hard for the contest judges to pass on that image.
Great shots, both.
Thanks for the input about metallic prints.
Good luck and let us know how the contest turns out.
I agree with Elle and sleepydrdr. The first one. Those eyes are amazing.
I can see how you would be undecided. Both are fabulous. I can see how someone would pick number one because of the eyes, but I guess I would pick number two because you can easier see the stance of the bird and what his beak looks like. But then I am a realist and that is what I like. One way or the other both are outstanding!
Thanks Elle, sleepydrdr and Mtn Dog. That is also my favorite, but based on some comments I have received on the 2nd shot recently, I was wondering if perhaps others would choose differently. I appreciate you looking and your comments. I must admit to almost falling off my chair in delight when I got back from this recent shoot and after uploading the shots to my computer, when I saw number one, I thought to myself, "Now that was one very lucky shot!" :) It seems like it was shot in a studio because the natural background came out just like a staged backdrop. It's fun to get lucky once in a while! :)

Me too!
I don't think I've ever seen anything with that eye-color before.
1st one for sure. It's all about the eye's

Both are very good, but I agree with most that the first is the best. It's not that often that a bird looks directly at the camera. I'm just in love with the blue eyes.

I was confused at first by #1. Only after looking at both, back and forth, did I realize that I was confused because the beak is out of focus and, because it is foreshortened, is not really in the photograph.
So I would recommend #2. But since these competitions are mostly crap-shoots, whichever one you choose, please come back and let us know the result.
Should have reminded the bird to "Smile!"
What kind of bird is it?
The second one is my choice. The first has the bird looking down his nose at the viewer. The second has more of a connection. They both are great shots, but I think the second has just a little bit more to it than the first. Anyway, just my $.02 worth.
First one for me, but both are exceptional. Well done and good luck. ;-)
It's #1 for me. Some of the comments for #2 got me thinking, but I still love #1.
It's the eyes.
