This is what it looks like after you travel 3 1/2 miles at -20F. The governor of Minnesota has canceled school for the whole state tomorrow because it will be much colder than this.

And yes, you have 3 more months of listening to me whine about the cold. Sorry. :-)

I think it's going to be -30F tomorrow. Our high will be -20F.

-30 Fahrenheit is -34.44 Celsius. :-)

Thanks Dug, but no I was out snowshoeing. It's too cold to keep my hands warm using the poles you need for skiing. Plus, snowshoeing is more work so I actually work up a sweat.

I had an English prof who suggested that we whine with a Shakespearean accent:

"... 'tis bitter cold and I am sick at heart." Francisco to Bernardo (Hamlet)

I don't get to use that line very much here in Austin, so it's a winter gift to you.

Love the iced hoodie drawstrings, and that bokeh is buttery. Which lens did you use?

Thank you, my dear. :-) It's the 100mm Macro f2.8L IS

Man I love Christmas!

I hope the orange farmers manage to keep their crops safe.

Ugh! We are going to have windchills in those digits but thankfully we won't get quite that cold. I guess I can always find someone colder than I am.
You did well with this self portrait.

Greetings from balmy Illinois. Still above zero here, but blizzard like snow. Supposed to get to -17 with -40 wind chill tonight. Still, nothing like the temps you have in store.

Looks like you had a super Christmas. I'm betting your Santa is really proud of his "photographer elf."

Keep warm now.

Santa brought me its Nikkor sister, a 105mm f2 DC! (It has killer bokeh control and it's fast, but has no image stabilization or macro/micro.) I just shot a wedding and used it for all things "portrait." LOVE IT!

Congrats on your new toy! I'll be looking for more buttery shots from you, Nightski!

Do the schools in Minnesota not have heat?

It's a liability issue. The kids out in the country who have to wait for school buses by themselves are in danger of frostbite. They are out in open areas, and children have been know to do foolish things when left to themselves. When I was a kid we would wait a good 15 minutes sometimes on days like this. Frostbite can happen in just a few minutes when the skin is exposed.
