New 5D Mark III Body With New Second Battery
Page 1 of 2 next>

This is a new Canon-USA 5D Mark III body, not gray market or remanufactured. The extra battery is a Canon LP-E6, not a cheap aftermarket item. All Items that normally come in the box are in there, including the blank Canon-USA warranty registration card. The shutter count is zero (unless Canon test fires them at the factory).

The camera has never been removed from it's internal packing material. I did open the box (they are not sealed) to check that all items were there and they are.

Reason for selling - this was a misguided Christmas gift that turned out to not be the camera I wanted.

Buyer pays for whatever the shipping costs me, their choice of carrier and type of shipment.

Price = $2815 plus the $85 PayPal fee if using PayPal.

**Just a question: why don't you return it to the place it was purchased. Surely the generous gift giver kept the receipt.

It was purchased at a really exceptionally low price from a reputable seller, and at the price I am offering we will not lose money. This also avoids me having to go through the hassle of the return processes (they would be separate for the camera and battery). So, I thought I would offer fellow Hogs a chance to buy it at this low price By comparison, B&H currently prices it at $3399 and some other camera stores at $3299.

In the post just above, what does the "This!" refer to?

It refers to me asking the same question as tshootthings.

Your price isn't that exceptionally low btw.

Good luck with your sale.

Thanks. It appears to me that most of the Mark III's for around this price are gray market or refurbished items. I'm not even finding any used ones for much lower. And the battery does cost somewhere in the $60-80 dollar range (I don't recall exactly).

I really did think it would be an excellent buy for a fellow Hog but If I'm wrong I will return it - yes, we do have a receipt. I'm not a dealer or professional seller so I may not be as well informed as I should be, but the situation is as I described - nothing dishonest is going on.

Best thing is to return it as the warranty would be valid only for the original purchaser.

That's not true at all. One only needs the purchase receipt.

My understanding is that Nikon and Canon have different policies on warranties. With Canon-USA a blank registration card, when filled out by the current owner, and/or a receipt, is adequate to obtain warranty coverage, whereas with Nikon it's original purchaser only.

Beware of gray market cameras as even though they may be advertised as having a United States warranty it isn't a Canon-USA warranty but rather by a private company (which may or may not actually exist).

Yes, isn't it!! I have a very loving wife who supports me in my passion for photography, even though it can be an expensive hobby. Everyone should be so lucky! Btw, I'm the person who started the recent thread asking for advice regarding a Mark III vs as D800E for exclusively landscape photography. She acted prematurely and ordered the Mark III before I had made a final decision, which went the other way.

In thinking my price isn't exceptionally low have you perhaps seen the recent Amazon listings for $1500 for a body? That's a scam which is recurrent in the camera section of Amazon. Note the use of an email address for the seller name. The scammer also somehow blocks the purchase of the item using an Amazon cart or one click ordering. and attempts to establish direct, private email correspondence with prospective buyers, persuades them to wire transfer the purchase price, and never ships the merchandise, which is non-existent. Since the purchase is made outside the Amazon system the buyer has lost all Amazon protection and has been robbed. I have never once seen a camera listing on Amazon that contained an email address which was legitimate. None of this applies to listings by Amazon LLC itself but rather to one or more of their private vendors.

I'm not saying any of this has anything to do with my listing here. I just thought the matter was worth calling to the attention of UHH members. It's an odious scheme that recurs over and over again on Amazon and they seem unable or unwilling to shut it down, and, sadly, it is successful at times.

I could not find a listing for around $2400. I may have missed it since I've never been on the Camera Rumors website before but it sure wasn't apparent.

The first two listings on Camera Rumors were for between $2800 and 2900 and appear to me to be gray market cameras. There is no mention that I could find of a Canon-USA warranty or warranty card.

The B&H listing for $2899 turns into a $3399 price when the link to B&H is clicked. The remaining 4 listings were all for $3299.

If these cameras are available for $2400, and I refer to new Canon-USA originated cameras, I may as well return mine to the dealer ASAP. But, I still believe mine is a more than competitive price. Btw. the Amazon selling price for the extra battery is $59, not the $60 - 70 I had thought. The PayPal fee can be avoided by the use of a USPS money order and I have decided to ship for free . If there are Canon-USA cameras out there for sale for less than $2815, especially with two oem batteries, please let me know. If that is the case, as I said earlier there is no sense in my trying to do the impossible and I might as well just return the camera to the seller.

You should return it if possible. Same thing happened to my sister this Xmas when she got one. She had no trouble returning it even though the one she wanted wasn't available through that retailer. Good luck.

Because the reseller, while they may take it back,,, and the limit is 14 days with most sellers I have checked, cannot resell the camera as NEW.

It now becomes a refurbished camera, even if not used. Once the camera is recorded as sold, FTC rules do not allow resale as new.

One of the reasons why refurbs are often a good deal. Some of them were never used by the original owner.

The original seller takes a loss.
