This is my first post and need some feedback. I just received my D800e from B&H I took it for a test spin and have to say WOW.
However the shots on the CF card work as should, but with the
SD card the images are on the card and I can review them with the camera but they won't transfer to my computer. I used ViewNX2 and downloaded from the camera since as of yet I don't have card readers. Any thoughts?

It's time for a quick trip to Best Buy. :-)

In the Transfer tab of View NX, make sure both slots of your camera are selected.

Are you asking if you should buy an SD card reader? Card readers are inexpensive ... and are probably going to be going down in price. My iMac has a built-in card reader! BTW, consider upgrading to Capture NX2. It reads all of the data your Nikon has to offer, unlike other programs not created for Nikon. If you shoot in raw (NEF), you'll have a tremendous amount of leeway in getting the white balance perfect.

Are you using JPG plus RAW and recording the RAW to the SD card? Then you need software capable of processing the D800E .nef files.

ViewNX reads NEF files. It comes with Nikon DSLR's.

Yes I intend to buy card readers. I was testing the camera to make sure everything was in working order. I shot raw on both cards, only the CF card worked. Wilikioti, I will check the transfer tab in ViewNX2.

Depending on the version it may need updating.

There is no transfer tab on my Mac version of ViewNX2 software.
In the camera I only put one of the cards in at a time, the camera then makes that card the default. I updated the software nothing, but that doesn't explain why I can upload the CF card and not SD card.

If you only use one card at a time its naturally going to be the default storage media as the camera has no other option.
I don't use macs so you may have a compatibility issue, but I do use the D800 and D800E and there is definitely no camera issue. Use BOTH cards at the same time and designate one for JPG and the other for RAW and see if you retain both, you definitely should.

Thank you all.
I will buy a card reader and perhaps that will solve the mystery, if not the camera goes back.

Could your card be locked????

Take a look at this list of possible solutions on eHow: http://www.ehow.com/how_7703737_wont-computer-read-camera-card.html

If the card is locked, I think it wouldn't write any pictures to it. I believe he said he could view the pictures on the camera.

Thank you, the card was not locked. I think that the problem is with the camera.
The images are on the card I can review them in the camera they just won't load into my computer. The puzzling thing is that my CF card works just fine.
I'm about to order a card reader that read CF and SD cards, any recommendations I only have a USB2 port.
Thank you all again
