Roxio VHS to DVD Problem

I have been converting VHS tapes over to DVD for a friend. At first I was doing it the the TV inside my computer to record from the VHS to my hard drive then convert the movies to VOB files with MyDVD from Sonic that came with my HP computer. MyDVD is now owned by Roxio which is owned by Corel Corp. No up dates for MyDVD. Now I have problems with MyDVD converting movie files.

I brought Roxio easy VHS to DVD 3 plus and it works great. Records from the VHS player to my hard drive through a USB port. Converts the MPEG2 movie fives to VOB file.

Problem. Only one out of seven DVD disk works in my BlueRay play. I can not see the DVD disk on my computer when place in the DVD/CD tray nor play back the Movies on the computer that I burn the disk with. I did use another computer that I own to see that there are files on the disk and that the movies will play.

Anyone else have problems like this or with Roxio VHS to DVD?

i am not seeing the connection between the VHS tapes and Blue Ray. I think your lucky to get one stranded dvd to play in a blue ray player. but I never had one.
So if you don't mind I want to follow this topic may help me more then you.
My "Roxie easy VHS to DVD" is rarely used on VHS anymore but it does work well.
It seems a more effective name now would be RCA to UBS :?
It transfers any thing with the red yellow white plugs such as DVD-RW burners and the now primitive Analog HHD or DVR systems

Are you creating blue ray video yourself from VHS tapes?

All my Roxeo files are stored as MPEG - mpg These work in widows movie maker where the pop out as wmv.

Never has there ever been a dvd burned here with a computer that was not previewed on the computer in the finished wmv format first before burning or uploading to youtube/facebook.
The Roxeo by then is shut off and put away.
All sound bites or soundtracks I need converted form video to mp3 or wav are done with Real Player from the MPEG or other files on my computer
And I will not use there DVD burner either.
After mpg's VOB's ,MP'3 mp 4's, WAV, MOV's or whatever is all crammed into windows movie maker .

It can utilizes windows DVD burner.
Or just select from various files and I go straight to windows DVD burner. Do you have a camera with BLUE RAY technology that you make VHS tapes with? I don't think you should attempt to create a BLUE RAY dvd's with 420p-720p VHS footage.

I have a problem also where 50% of all Memorex DVD-RW disk are defective and the attempt to use them has taken its toll on the DVD burners.

Bangee5, I use Roxio 10 to do the same thing you are doing. I would suggest that in the capture under options there is a window for T.V. settings that allow you to choose many different "closing" or "Finalizing" outputs("pal" being one). I have mine set to NTSC_M. I also believe that you should be able to check how Roxio is closing the DVD.

The name BlueRay has nothing to do with it. It is just a player attached to my TV. I'm not making BlueRay DVDs but the Files must be VOB to play on DVD players.

VHS is the type of Machine that plays VHS tapes. RCA is the type of connector on the back of the machine to connect cables to my capture device which also has RCA connectors. My VHS player is a Magnavox.

All of which has nothing to do with the problem. The idea is to convert mpg files to VOB to be played on a DVD or BluRay type player attached to a TV (not a computer).

Thanks lens cap. I suspect that the disk are not being properly closed but even so the burner that was used to make the disk should be able to preview the disk. It is being treated as a blank DVD yet when I check the disk with MyDVD program it shows that the disk is Finalized. It also thinks that the DVD+R is a RW type disk. It will not let me Finalize the disk again.

Maybe its my disk burner or the wrong drivers. Don't know.
Thanks for your input.

"The idea is to convert mpg files to VOB to be played on a DVD or BluRay type player attached to a TV (not a computer)"

You are confusing the issue with this blue ray stuff. Then saying it has nothing t do with it. If its old BUY A NEW ONE.
Using the burn feature on DVD burners whether it be a single component or the one inside your computer will always decrease the life span of this unit more then any other digital product there is.
They wear out fast!.
If any person burns a lot of DVD's with there PC it will error/malfunction in a short time.
DVD recorders all have a very short life span when used to burn lots of DVD's.
This is fact no matter what brand you get.
Give your gift of DVD in the form of flash card or SD card DVD's are old school and will soon go the way of 8 tracked tapes. cassettes and the doe doe bird.
Including BLUE RAY

The DVDs are not for me but for a friend who owned a Beta Cam. Her Cam Recorder is long gone but she held on the the Beta Tapes in the hope that someday she could have them converted to DVD because her old VHS Player wore out. I have re-recorded all the tapes. My Computer TV Card records in dvr-ms format and I used MyDVD to Edit and burn to DVD (VOB). No other format can work in a DVD player such as a BluRay Player which will play VOB movies from a DVD+R disk.

I started to have problems with MyDVD program, computer errors. That is why I got the Roxio Capture device which makes video capture easy.

I took the DVDs that I had made, seven in all and tried them out on my friends BluRay Player and five of the seven worked. The fault may be the DVD burner that is in my computer. I was thinking of swapping out this burner with another DVD burner from other computer that I have but don't much.

Thank you for your interest. Here is something that might interest you... 3D Movies. Check out the link.

The program you link to utilizes 3 D glasses.
This is nothing but a gimmick throwing off the colors to create the illusion of 3 D
For true 3 D one must have two views of a real subject . Color changes are the same as 2 D
(blk/wht, sopia, exc exc.)
There is a free download to match your PC I'm almost sure. if this is not it just google it.
With windows movie maker you can put the VOB blues behind you and work straight from you mpeg files collected with Roxio and or add your VOB's, MOV's and mp 3-4 video's and sound or whatever including flv (Real Player youtube downloads) and has many very nice transitions and other features that make a professional looking DVD.

I run Windows XP on an HP which is about seven years olds. I have used Windows movie maker ever since it came out. The problem with Windows Movie maker is that it only makes WMV files. It does not even burn DVDs. Of course there is a work around to this problem as there is a work around to any problem. I usually convert WMV file to DivX. The link that you provided does not help any since it too only makes WMV files and I am not interested in putting her movies on YouTube.

I have been noticing some oddities with my computers DVD burner lately. I was going to do the swap this morning when I friend called wanting to get together for lunch. Since we live a good distance from each other I had to put the swap on hold till tomorrow.

I am sure that I will solve this problem... part of the fun is finding the solution.

I guess I thought that Windows DVD Burner would naturally come in the Download with the Windows Movie Maker silly me
Windows computers do have a DVD burner. Never seen an HP.
When using the term RCA jacks or in my case "RCA to DVD"
it refers to the red yellow white,(VHS, DVD, CD) not the little doggy sign in front of the Victrola.
This is important for buying the right adapter to connect your lap top or desk top to the back of the home entertainment system.
An absolute must for all music enthusiast.

Your going to upgrade/change/rebuild a 7 year old computer to use windows movie maker, and it wont work with windows files.
I'm still thinking about downloading photo shop or some other type of editing program.
I just don't have time to change my photography into something different.
I'd rather just go take more photos.
Still people ask me what program I use to processes 3 D photos :-o I don't have one.

I also use the snapshot feature to create double exposure 3D sbs photos. :-P
I just realized I've never shared one.
They are really cool.

As for the RCA "Jacks" as some have called it are connector, yes. I have a collect of different RCA cables, male to male , male to female, Two males to single female Y connectors and two females to single male. RCA to mini plugs, RCA in-line connectors. S- to video-L speaker & R speaker RCA. I do know what RCA Jacks are. Aside from recording VHS movies I also converted my old old LPs and tapes from phonograph/tape deck to MP3.

HP stands for Hewlett-Packard. Like I said, I run Windows XP on my HP and Windows XP does burn DVDs but for some reason, Microsoft never though to include the option to burn DVD or CD from Window Moviemaker. However, Windows DVD/CD burner is of no help in my situation.

Cameras don't always get it right - right out of the camera. There is always room for some enhancements to photo. I have Photoshop CS3 but my Canon came with its own Photo Post Processing software. I use it more than Photoshop.

You might have told me before but what camera do you use?

Free hand I use a Rebel T3 :-) for 15-85mm and the T2i for the 55-250mm shots.
No auto sensor cleaner with the T3 so I only remove the lens for "Radical 3D"
If I got time for a tripod shot I can go to the 75-300 (no stabilizer)

If you asked me to see a 3 D photo with moving objects I would need to mount the two T2i's next to each other on the tripod and use a remote shutter to catch both photos at the same time. "Radical 3D"
They would have to be with 15-85 the only lens I have two of.
For production of music videos I never depend on DSLR with people on the clock  they will bite me in the ass.

I have two backup Magnavox movie cams.
These are no longer used as VHS recorders but rather used as "RCA Jack" devices that are recorded by the Magnavox DVD recorders.
Many times I have had to fall back on this footage when the DSLR's give the signal "Video has automatically stopped recording"
If I need to save the soundtrack for the purpose of adding it back on top the video after editing I copy then use Real Player to convert the original videos to WAV or MP3 sound format.
I have some stock footage from the two T2i's for 3D sbs video.
Not in production, just sitting on the shelf. I need the program  it's Adobe.

One rebel T2i is being replaced this week for my radical 3 D.
I had some pixels burn out.:-(
All cameras are being replaced in video production by Sony detected video cams at this time. illuminating the back up cams once and for all I hope. 8-)

Not an answer to your problem but when I tried a video input card on my computer I found it much too slow and unreliable.

My solution was to feed the video player into my DVD HDD Recorder and record onto a DVD. The finished disks I either kept as was - or put into my computer and ripped the DVD into videos for further work.

Pictxterowner, what are you actually calling "RCA JACKS"? RCA Jacks is the type of connector on the end of a cable (as opposed to mini type or even USB)that connects two devices together. It is not a device itself. You are saying that you have your cam recorders connected to a Magnavox DVD Recorder. It would be common knowledge that a signal is being sent from one device to the other. But why to a DVD Recorder and not to a Hard Drive or other types of storage device? You don't actually burn to a DVD while recording do you?

I have a Canon 60D. I can connect it to my TV with the Video cables or I can connect the camera to my computer and control the camera from my computer with cables (mini USB from camera to USB to computer). With this setup I can take pictures or record movies directly to my hard drive. The software and the cables that cames with your Canon T2i will enable you to do the same. A laptop would be better. How to set it up for SBS is another matter. By SBS, I assume that you mean side by side.

The device I have connected to my computer can record directly to my computers DVD recorder but I prefer to capture the video to hard drive and edit it . This was suppose to be just just a one time job, free of charge, for a friend, a female of course. I would have no need for the purchase of DVD HDD. When I am done with this little head ache, I don't plan on doing more. Can you imagine what it is like to have to sat and watch someone else's "Home Videos" over and over again? I had to watch it record, watch it to edit it, I had to watch it to test it on my home system, then watch it again when I had over the finished product. Multiply this by 30 plus tapes. Bad video, bad panning, bad zooming, bad focusing, etc.

My payment was to see the smiles on the face of my friend when you can see her parents who have died speaking and laughing on her own TV. And for this, I want to do my best. But hopefully, I won't have to do any more.

Thank you Crwiwy for your reply and interest.
