I don't know if this has already been posted so here is something I got in email today. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sx50_hs?pageKeyCode=prdAdvDetail&docId=0901e02480aba866

Certain serial numbers have a problem.

I guess I hadn't registered mine, but I got an email from Amazon yesterday with the link to check it out.

The phone number on that page turned out to be the wrong one. I used it and was transferred and held for 10 minutes and was cut off. I used another number in an email I received and it was a good number: 1-866-261-9362

They took info from me and sent me instructions on how to return my camera and a free mailer with UPS.

Return the whole camera? Why not pop off the rubber eye piece and return it for a replacement?

I haven't contacted them yet, but I have to admit, I am reluctant to return the camera. Mine shows no sign of the problem, and there *has* to be a way they can handle a fix through more 'local' dealers...

I know that they pay for shipping and stuff, but I am loath to be without my camera for an unspecified length of time - you just *know* that some marvelous opportunity will come up during that period...

I asked them if they would just send the new eye piece to me and let me put it on. They said no. I don't like sending mine off. I had to send in another camera to them and it was gone about a week, which I considered fast service. With the bad weather hitting the country, I will plan on mine being gone 2 weeks.

Had to double check Canon site to make sure mine is registered...it is. I only received an email from Amazon with a link, also, but I am still waiting for something from Canon.
