Love the sharpness of the 1.8 lens. How do you like the d5100 so far? Cute baby...

You have done a nice job with your new DSLR, and the 35mm is always a good walk around lens, but is this your only lens? I ask because as you will soon learn with human subjects, getting in close is not natural, yet closer is desired unless you seek to tell something related to the subjects activity...in that case the 35 is a good choice. OOPs you have a Tamron lens...what size? L3

The first 2 shots were taken with the nikkor 35 f1.8, the last was with a tamron 18-270 pzd, which will likely be the walk around lens for trips and hikes and the 35mm for portrait and lower light stuff.

Those 16GB Extreme cards are intended for use in videos and some cameras have problems translating and communicating with the cards when it comes to stills. Try down-stepping to an 8GB, or even a 4GB card for your still shots. The problem should go away. If your camera can shoot video, then hold onto the cards and use them when you want to shoot videos.

I use a maximum size of 4GB for my photography for one simple reason. I can keep better track of the photos I take and sorting through them isn't so difficult. Anything bigger causes confusion and the larger memory cards hold way too much information and photos. Hope this answers your question...
