Those are amazing!, Good photos too. I have always wondered how they are able to do this with sand. I know if it the right mixture of water and sand but......Wow, still wonder.

You must have never lived near the beach when young. Of course nothing near elaborate as these, but we always made our own sand-castles. Pack the wet sand in our various pails and then flip. Top it off by dribbling wet-sand thru our hands in sort of a drip-method. Was a blast...then that blasted next wave came in...and..... :'(

I did go to the beach and we tried to make castles but nothing as elaborate or long lasting as these!

Sorry...sounded like you didn't. No doubt they take it to a whole new level, but the basic bare-bottom technique is the same. Ever get to watch the show Sand-Masters? On Travel channel. http://www.travelchannel.com/tv-shows/sand-masters

Thank you Wendy I appreciate your comments, Apparently the sand is a very special high density sand that clings together, after the competition was over, the sand was bulldozed up, and will be stored away till next year I believe they used 80 tons. The only other thing used was an environmentally friendly spray to repel Moisture after the Sculpture was finished in case of Rain.

and yet you couldn't move more landside as you needed the wetter sand to build. Quite the dilemma!!

Great photos.
Watched a competition a couple of years ago. So elaborate, with huge blue prints and teams of people working on various aspects of the design. Really interesting to watch them build these.
Thanks fir sharing
