Thank you very much. I was driving home on a Farm to Market road and saw this bird on a power pole well ahead of me. I pulled over to the side of the road and readied my camera (Canon 5d Mk III with Canon 300mm f4 ) I then lowered my window and slowly approached and then pulled off the road again and got these shots. And yes, they were hand held.

Does your 300 mm have a stabilizer mine does not?

Yes, it has IS. With the 2x, autofocus doesn't work except in spot metering and several other functions don't work either. I am going to get a 1.4x so all functions work.
